The roadtrip to Montreal this past weekend was just what the doctor ordered. We listened to the Serial podcast on our way there and back, which kept our minds off work and made the 5-hour long ride much more bearable. We traveled there with a very short itinerary which sometimes is an amazing thing for someone who has Type A personality and desire to make plans down to the minute. What we did have in our itinerary were Bota Bota, Old Montreal and their infamous poutine.
When we arrived, we checked into our rooms at the W Montreal Hotel and were blown away by the modern and gorgeous space (thank you for upgrading is to the Mega Room!). Wanting to waste little time, we quickly dropped our bags and went to explore the city. Within the short few days, we were able to walk around the Montreal Eaton Centre, have dinner at Shabu Shabu (btw, amazing authentic Korean BBQ!), unwind at the Bota Bota Spa, wander down the cobblestone streets of Old Montreal, have dinner at an apparent hidden gem (La Fayette) and lastly, give Le Cartet a second chance on Sunday brunch.
For me, the most memorable part of the trip was the walk down Rue Saint-Paul, a narrow and historic street in Old Montreal. I stopped at every corner and intersection to snap photos of the tall, muted-grey buildings and little quaint shops (I have my new Olympus OM-D E-M5 camera to thank for these photos!). I particularly adored the horse-drawn carriages riding along the cobblestone streets and the stonework on the Europe-esque buildings. I would love to come back and experience this in the summertime, but there's something charming about the fall weather mixed in with the old city. From what I've seen, it also seems less crowded during this time of the year, which I prefer. A visit to Montreal would definitely be incomplete without a a stroll through this romantic part of the city.
Wow Montreal looks like a gray Paris! Wish I could get myself out to that part of Canada...

I've never been to Paris, but it seems close enough by comparison of photos! Please do come visit Canada soon (or just Toronto!) :)
