Growing old, together

Best friend (1) Best friend (2) Best friend (3) Best friend (4) Best friend (5) Best friend (6) Best friend (7) Best friend (8) Best friend (9)

I think we can all agree that it takes a long time to grow an old friend and when you do happen to stumble upon that extraordinary someone, keep them close and never take them for granted. Tiffany and I have been friends for almost eleven years now and nothing has changed since. Although we did part for a small period after I moved away for university, we somehow managed to find a way back to our friendship. We have grown so much within the past few years, from little girls setting up their own garage sales in hopes of making a dollar or two to blossoming into two mature (so we think) young women. “Fun” to us meant sliding down a flight of stairs, sneaking into the sauna when we were underage, taking millions of grainy webcam photos, staying on the phone until past midnight, leaving long messages on each other's AsianAvenues, and running around in matching clothes from Siblings.

Our fondest childhood memory together would probably have been all the memories down Sheppard Avenue. We live only a few minutes apart and spent our high school years walking down the same street, every single day. Even though we saw each other every day, the conversations were endless and would sometimes go well into the night. Till this day, she still continues to be the person who I turn to when my days are glum and grey.

Sometimes we just need to step away from our busy lives and spend time with those who bring out the best in you. I’m blessed to have met such a warm-hearted and genuine individual, and our promise of friendship will never break. I imagine that someday, the two of us will be old wrinkly grannies taking morning and late afternoon walks down the park together (hopefully without the hunches). "Make new friends and keep the old. One is silver and the other is gold. A circle is round, it does not end. That's how long I want to be your friend." I want to thank you for being you.

What is your fondest childhood memory with your best friend?

  1. We're going to be two grannies riding our wheel chairs down Sheppard (I'll meet you half way). And then we'll link arms and talk about our grandchildren on the way to dim sum. No more sliding down stair cases though, I think I'm already too old for that :s. We'll go perm our white hairs into poof balls together and take photos right after that in our matching granny outfits. So many great memories growing up with you bananey, and so many more crazy years to come. Hopefully no more parking tickets though LOL. Best friendsies foreversssss. Love you girl <3 Thank you for being you too. xo

  7. this is very sweet and immediately made me think of my friend nadine. we've been friends for almost twenty years now. even though we live four thousand miles apart [she lives in germany] we have managed, over the past eleven years of being apart, to stay very close. we do not get to see each other very often, but when we do it really feels like no time has passed.

    warm greetings!
    leyla.

  15. You're so fortunate to find a BFF. I used to have a very good friend, but then we fell apart due to some misunderstanding. Currently, I have many good friends and I'm trying not to label them. I think people come into your life for a reason. Have a great weekend!

  16. This is such a nice post! First, the pictures are beautiful. Second, you're so lucky to have such a great friend! It's one of the best things in life. My best friend and I like to laugh about when we met and how she had this outrageous stuffed cat collection (ooh middle school).

    Great post!

  19. You are both so pretty and stylish! It's great to hear that you have been able to find someone who shares so much in common with you and develop such a strong relationship with. Even though everyone has at least 1 person they call a best friend, not all friendships can withstand the passing of time. I hope that you both will continue to stay such close friends :)
