Last night, my friend and I made our way down to LG Fashion Week to view their runway shows for the night. I wore an all black ensemble with minimal contrasted embellishments. This was a simple dress that had a lot of detail - from the tie bow on the shoulders to the pleated draped skirt. We had a marvelous time, albeit rather tiring evening, especially when you're lugging around bags and bags of takeaways (boxes of Kellogg's cereal anyone?). It was definitely a memorable experience, which I can't thank MasterCard enough for.

It's no surprise that my favourite pieces were from VAWK's S/S 2012 collection with inspiration drawn from insects. One would think insect-inspired fashion would consist of dark, creepy pieces, but this collection was filled with mesmerizing metallics and neutrals. Stay tuned for a collection of photos from the studio and runway shows!

  29. hi aney,

I'm an avid reader of your blog and i really do love your sense of style and how you re-use multiple pieces especially since you're on a student budget (i'm also a university student and money is tight).

But, i saw on your twitter you tweeted about the shark fin soup ban (i'm from north of toronto) and you seem a bit surprised from it (just like a lot of people are, which i don't blame you for). I'm writing this to just shed some light on the issue and in no means am i trying to 'convert you' to supporting the ban (that choice is all up to you) and just want to inform you as to why so many people are against the sale of it.

shark fin soup - has no 'real' health benefits like decreasing your chances of getting a heart attack vs. vegetables and fruits giving you essential vitamins. its just mainly a 'treat'- yet me being from a chinese family, have heard about so many 'benefits' this soup can do for you- i.e. better skin, lower chances of getting cancer. which isn't true at all, where its basically just rumours being passed around from the older gen to the young gen- and following customs b/c the elders request it. so the 'bad part' is how they harvest the shark fin soup, they essentially cut off the fins of the shark and just throw it back into the ocean and let the shark to die- since it can't swim without the it's fins, it'll just drop to the bottom of the ocean. So you probably can see why that is a problem - sharks are are making their way up to being extinct and the way they kill them is very cruel and just a waste of animal material as well. especially for a dish that has no real benefits and ppl just want to eat it b/c of 'tradition/customs'. since it is seen as a delicacy, and only those who are relatively well off would have the money to purchase it, they do mass harvesting of the sharks b/c it is worth so much in the market.

as for swallow's nest, thats a whole another on its own :P but it is along the same lines, except you're not killing the actual bird.

i hope i'm not coming off as being offensive in any way, b/c i'm really not trying to be! and i don't think youre a bad person or anything and i think you're actually really sweet and kind person in general- everyone is entitled to their own opinion. but i just try to inform others of the facts so they just know why ppl like me (those who are in environmental science/science field ) feel so strongly about this issue and that we're not just picking on chinese foods/ppl for no reason at all.

Anyways, i hope they clears it up for you and you can see why some ppl support the ban and please please don't take offense to it, i still think youre a great person and your blog is awesome too! i'm in no means trying to start some internet fight with you :P

thanks for taking the time to read my length comment!
