Iris Van Herpen S/S11 Haute Couture
February 4, 2011
Iris Van Herpen, a 26-year-old Dutch designer produced these mind-blowing, futuristic pieces from blending the art of couture and technology together and generating such amazement through intricate 3-D printing. I’m swayed by the white warped-ruffled dress, sculpted wings/shoulders, and the faint black butterfly dress (with material that seriously reminds me of film strips). The 3-D couture dresses don’t seem the least comfortable to sit in, but I have to admit that those sculptural shapes produced from strips of plastic are nonetheless breathtakingly beautiful. This is truly the art of fashion.
